To fly higher than others in boarding school hostels, there are four reasonable secrets to it. Though they may seem common in appearance, they are powerful in application. Therefore, I suggest you should know them, regardless of your class level.
This article is supposed to be for boarding school students only, but for learning sake, it is advised and good for all levels including day students and university students to read it.
Because whether you sleep in a hostel or at home, excellence follows the same principles.
Below are the four secrets on how boarders can become first class students without doubt.
1. KNOW BOOKS
Of course, if you hunger for a first class position, you must know books.
You must know how to read, how to write, how to understand, and how to apply what you have read. And you must be willing to adapt to environmental changes in learning and in doing.
In a boarding house, distractions are everywhere. Noise from other students. Night prep gisting. Lights out too early. But first class students have learned to read in any environment.
It's simple, either you learn from home or you learn from school. Either you teach yourself or you learn from others. But you MUST learn.
First class students are great people who are ready to do all of the class assignments required. They don’t skip assignments. They don’t say “I will copy tomorrow morning.” They do it the day it is given.
They also do more than assignments:
1. They read ahead of the teacher
2. They read textbooks, not just notebooks
3. They ask questions when they don’t understand
4. They teach others what they have learned because teaching is the best way to remember
Therefore, try to be in that position because you now know the first secret. Be ready to learn and relearn so that you can grow more.
In boarding school, create a reading timetable that works for you. Some people read best at 4 AM. Some at night prep. Some during siesta. Discover your best time and protect it. Know books. Love books. Live books. Your books are your ladder to first class.

At times they live a lonely life. Or more so, they do not pay too much attention to irrelevant associations, both in the school environment,or playing ground and they are not socially attached to unknown friends who are of no use.
It is not pride. It is purpose. They have no time for gossip groups. No time for endless gist. No time for hostel dramas that add nothing to their future.
If you know your vision, you will know who to walk with and who to avoid.
Ask yourself today these three questions;
1. What do I want to become in the next 5 years?
2. Why did my parents send me to this school?

First class students want their creativity to be the best among others. They want their answers to be the most complete. They want their projects to be the most outstanding.
But they don’t make noise about it. They compete silently. They check the top 3 students’ scores and say, “Next term, I will be there.”
Therefore, if there is one thing a first class student is hiding from you, that is the competitive spirit inside of him.
Healthy competition is good. It pushes you to read one more hour. It pushes you to solve one more past question. It pushes you to wake up earlier.
In boarding school, competition is everywhere. Who is the neatest? Who is the most punctual? Who answers questions in class? Who leads in exams?
Use competition as fuel, not as jealousy.
Don’t hate the first position holder. Learn from him. What time does he sleep? What does he read? How does he answer questions? Sit close to him. Befriend him. Competition without learning is just envy.

The time I realized my writing skills in secondary school, I started writing. I started developing my reasoning through poems and articles for humanity’s advancement.
Reading other people’s articles and creations from great achievers became my priority. If you can do that, you would know truly they started earlier to pursue their dreams.
“Know thyself,” the Bible advised. Don’t play with your academics. Your parents pay for it, and one day, it will be your turn to pay for your own kids.
Four tips of seriousness in boarding school that means a lot;
1. Serious with time: You don’t waste prep time. You don’t sleep through lessons.
2. Serious with books: You have a timetable and you follow it.
3. Serious with character: You avoid cheating, stealing, and bad groups that will spoil your name.
4. Serious with growth: You read beyond your class notes. You read motivational books, biographies, and articles that expand your mind.
Many students fail because they are dull and sightless and can't dictate signs concerning their studies progress. Dull students read when exam is near. First class students read every day. Sightless students pray for success. First class students work for success.
In a nutshell, to become a first class student in a boarding school hostel is not by magic. It is by knowing these four secrets I have listed below:
